Man arrested for Jefferson County sex assault has record

The 20 year-old man arrested Saturday in connection with attempted sexual assault in Jefferson County had been arrested in January for sexual assault, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Sunday identified Xavier Sebastian McDaniel as the suspect in the assault of a teenage girl last Thursday.
McDaniel is accused of entering an unlocked door and walking into an apartment where the teen was watching television.
The girl fought the suspect off, and watched him drive away in a 1990's model white Jeep Cherokee.
Jefferson County investigators located the car in the apartment complex where the attack took place.
CBI records show that McDaniel was arrested for misdemeanor sexual assault and harassment on Jan. 8.
McDaniel is a resident in the apartment complex near South Simms Street and W. Bowles Ave. where Thursday's attack took place.
"Jeffco investigators located the car in the apartment complex where the attack took place," according to a sheriff's department statement.
Investigators found McDaniel at his place of employment in Douglas County and placed him under arrest.
McDaniel is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond on suspicion of first degree burglary and attempted sexual assault causing serious bodily injury.
He is scheduled for a first appearance in court on Monday at 10 a.m. At that time he will be advised of the charges.
"We're hoping everybody can just breathe a sigh of relief that somebody is being held accountable for the crime," Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said.
